Various cultural events take place in the region of Kastelli, especially during the summer. These events are organised by the cultural associations of the villages. Because of their value in reviving and maintaining local customs and the traditional way of village life, some have been included in European programmes. 

Cretans are deeply religious people generally, as well as glengedes, meaning people that love glenti (feast, or party). Religious festivals (or panegiria) give them the opportunity to combine religion with fun and social gathering.
