The Municipality of Kastelli Pediadas lies inland to the northeast of the prefecture of Heraklion and in close proximity to that of Lasithi. It is located at the borders of the municipalities, of Episkopi, Gouves and Hersonissos to the north, of Thrapsanos to the west, and of Arkalochori to the south.
The seat of the municipality is Kastelli, situated at a distance of 36 km from the capital of Crete, Heraklion, and 14 km from the sea-side tourist resort of Hersonissos. The region produces, olive oil, grapes, raisins, wine, garden vegetables and superior quality traditional cheese.

The municipality of Kastelli is home to 25 picturesque traditional villages, scattered over an area of 123,325 km², with a total population of 6,819 people (census 2001).  Most of the villages lie in the foothills of the Dikti mountain ranges while the majority of the plains are taken by the military airport, which is in our area and which continues to develop.

The ‘county town', Kastelli village, is equipped with every type of service required by locals and visitors alike. In Kastelli you will find a health centre, shops of all kind, restaurants and tavernas, small hotels and rooms for rent, while in the wider region there are many cafes and tavernas, two traditional guest houses, traditional pottery and iconography workshops.

Splendid nature with dramatic variations come into view in the landscape as you pass through Gerakiani Langada, Mesada in Kastamonitsa village, Metochi in Mathia and through the region of Agios Panteleimon, rewarding you with forested riverbanks, centuries old trees, cold running water and wild rocky landscapes.

You will also find a wealth of walking paths, traditional villages and archeological sites within our region. The prehistoric settlements of Kastelli, Lyttos, the Acropolis of Smari and Tichos in Kastamonitsa offer a fascinating glimpse of the past, as you get in touch with a history that goes back many thousands of years.
