Emmanouil Georgiou Smyrnakis was born in Archangelos village in 1949, his parents having been local farmers.
He finished higher education in Kastelli Pediada and studied Civil Engineering.
From 1975 until today he works at the Agrotiki Trapeza ATE (Rural Bank of Greece).
From 1975 to the beginning of 1983, he served in the Department of Civil Engineering of ATE headquarters in Athens where he collaborated with the unforgettable Giorgos Gennimatas.
Then, from 1983, he served in the Civil Engineering Department of Heraklion ATE branch, and was responsible for the monitoring of all the engineering works in Crete.
A member of ATE's Trade Union, he served for six years as executive in the administration of the Association of Employees.
He was also a member of Heraklion Administration Prefectoral Department OTOE (Hellenic Federation Of Bank Employee Unions) for 4 years and was elected union Workers Representative of the bank, taking part in many congresses of OTOE.
He was elected in Heraklion's Ergatiko Kentro (Working Centre) and has worked for two three-year periods as a member of the administration and for two further years as Assistant General Secretary.
As representative of Heraklion Working Centre he served for two three-year periods as a Port Committee member of Heraklion Port Fund.
Between 1994 and 1997, he worked as Assistant Director of ATE's Insurance Services in Perifereia ( all four counties) of Crete.
He was elected County Adviser for a four-year period; 1996-2000 and he worked as:
- Chairman of Committee of the Primary Sector
- Chairman of the Committee of School Property Buildings in the County's Self-Government of Heraklion.
He took part in the following seminars: Engineering, Marketing, Strategic Management, Sales, and Greenhouse Manufacture.
He is married to Paraskevi Magaki and has two children, George, Civil Engineer, and Ioanna, Professor of French Literature.
